Everything starts in the forest. All Amorim cork stoppers are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) including the full product range from Amorim Top Series.
Amorim was the first cork supplier in the world to receive an FSC® certification, granted in 2007. The FSC seal is increasingly valued by wine and spirits producers and by retailers. For example, as far back as 2010 the UK’s second largest supermarket chain, Sainsbury's, announced that all the cork closures used in its wines were to be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The FSC seal is coveted by packaging clients and prized by end-customers, given that certified products are increasingly valued in the global market, especially when certification is associated to sustainability and environmental protection.
Wine and spirits producers are also increasingly concerned that the paper used in the labels and packaging of their products comes from FSC-certified forests.
Certification by FSC indicates that the cork has been sourced from a certified cork forest and that Amorim upholds sustainable, environment-friendly and socially-responsible processes throughout its value chain. Danish sociologist, Kim Carstensen, Director General of the Forest Stewardship Council since 2012, says that companies benefit from telling consumers about how their products are helping biological diversity and life in the forest. He considers that cork is a very good example of this. “We think that telling the stories of the benefits, by showing the pictures of the beautiful forest areas that cork comes from there is a lot to gain. I think that raising the awareness or retailers and with other importers of cork stoppers or importers of wine, there is a lot to gain.”
