Top Series sponsors Whisky Magazine’s 2017 Hall of Fame awards

Amorim TopSeries sponsored yet another edition of Whisky Magazine’s Hall of Fame awards - supreme accolades in the world of whisky - continuing a long-term association that began in 2004.

The six new inductees were John Hall from Forty Creek Distillery in Canada, Noel Sweeney from Powerscourt Distillery, Ireland, Willie Pratt from Michter's, Kentucky, USA, Julian Van Winkle III, President of the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, Kentucky, USA, Ian Millar, prestige whisky specialist for William Grant & Sons, and Charles Maclean, writer and co-founder of Whisky Magazine.

In this year’s award ceremonies, the inductees from both sides of the Atlantic received elegant decanters topped with hand-crafted Top Series prestige stoppers.

Amorim dedicated its full design and innovation skills to create decanters that befit the noteworthy individuals who have made a lasting contribution to the world of whisky.

John Hall founded Forty Creek Distillery in 1992 where he created Forty Creek Canadian Whisky, which has become a top selling whisky brand and has propagated the fame of Canadian whisky internationally.

Noel Sweeney worked for 27 years as master blender and chief distiller at Cooley (now Beam Suntory) where he helped launch brands such as Kilbeggan 15 Years Old, The Greenore 15 Years Old, The Connemara Peated Single Malt and Tyrconnell Madeira. In 2017, he joined Powerscourt Distillery in County Wicklow, Ireland as master blender and master distiller.

Willie Pratt is Michter's master distiller, having previously worked for four decades for Brown-Forman, also based in Kentucky.

Julian Van Winkle III is the third generation Van Winkle to be involved in the Kentucky Bourbon whiskey business and has won multiple awards, including for the 20-year old Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve the 13-year old rye whiskey.

Ian Millar has worked for 13 distilleries in a number of technical and production roles, over more than 40 years, including working as distillery manager at Bladnoch, Mortlach, Blair Athol, Dalwhinnie, Linkwood and Glen Elgin distilleries before joining William Grant & Sons, where he has been distillery manager for Glenfiddich and The Balvenie. He began his current position as prestige whisky specialist for William Grant & Sons in 2016.

Charles MacLean, who co-founded Whisky Magazine in 1998, has published 13 books to date, including, Scotch Whisky and Malt Whisky, both of which were shortlisted for the Glenfiddich Awards.
